The Whitney I Knew by Bebe Winans

Do you remember when you became a fan of your favorite music or better yet, your favorite artist?

I do.

I was 8 when the Bodyguard came out, and someone had it on VHS Tape. I remember liking the silver shimmery-ness of Whitney’s costume on the front cover. I read the blurb on the back of the case, Rachel Marron was a singer played by Whitney Houston, and Kevin Costner played her bodyguard. Ok…I’d seen Kevin Costner in Dances with Wolves.

Reading The Whitney I Knew was like being 8 again and falling in love with this beautiful woman with that powerful, perfect voice. Bebe writes a heartwarming memoir about his friend and “sister” Whitney Houston. I enjoyed the personal memories and stories he told about his friendship with Whitney. This book felt like the best interview one could have in order to “know” Whitney, it was beautifully written, I laughed, I cried, and really enjoyed getting to know a side of Whitney that I would have never known had Bebe not written the book. If you’re a fan of either Bebe or Whitney, I highly recommend this book.
